I’m in the mood for classic black and white. I’m seeing it everywhere at the moment when window shopping and browsing through store clothes racks, black and white pieces are always in fashion. Even flicking through my regular interior magazines I am left drooling over black and white kitchens with marble, concrete and timber accents.
Colour trends for fashion, interiors and weddings often come and go, but if you are unsure of what colour to pick for your wedding, why not take a look at black and white style. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Here are 14 of the best classic wedding bouquets in timeless black and white.
So first let’s talk flowers. Of course, there are many many flowers available in white, but what flowers are available in black? I hear you ask. Well, more than you may think.

Black calla lilies are such a deep purple, eggplant colour tone that they appear to be black. Black for a wedding was once a symbol of bad luck, but no more as many brides are choosing to carry black flowers, embellishments or even wear black instead of the traditional white wedding dress. For this wedding, the bride chose a white dress with an all black calla lily bouquet and then her bridesmaids were reversed, wearing black dresses with white bouquets.
Black and White Anemones
No flower is more naturally classic and beautiful than the white petal and black centre anemone. This classic flower looks gorgeous featured on its own in a wedding bouquet or paired with other classic white blooms and green foliage to frame.
Black and White Proteas
Black and white proteas are also a gorgeous statement flower. Very long lasting, I love having these on display in my home when in season. They have an interesting shape and soft feathery petal with black edges. They could suit a variety of wedding styles, from classic, on their own, to rustic by adding wild textured foliage.
Black Succulents and White Orchids
Black succulents are a great way to bring that dark tone into a bouquet. Here they are paired with the elegant white Phalaenopsis orchid with some white Singapore orchids scattered through also.
This large organic garden posy consists of gorgeous black cherry cosmos and sprigs of ripe blackberries. White roses and hellebores along with soft maidenhair fern and trailing jasmine create an overall romantic style keeping with the black and white theme. I just love the thick long velvet ribbon which adds emphasis to the black blooms and balances with the size of the design.
Dark Foliage and Deep Tones
Black tones in a bouquet can also come from dark foliages like black beech. This design uses dark and green foliages along with anemones and deep burgundy dahlias and calla lilies. This deep tone is so rich and gives the overall appearance of the classic black and white. I also love the detail of the brides matching deep burgundy lippy.
Black and White Berry Bouquet
Take the dark foliage look even further to create a rustic bouquet of all white and green flowering foliages like veronica paired with black berries.
Black, White and Gold
Highlight black and white with stunning accents like metallics think gold, rose gold and this season’s hottest trend, copper. This textured rustic bouquet incorporates feathery gold astilbe with soft grey dusty miller. The branches and black berry add an architectural style which is softened by the soft pretty white tulips and roses.
Black and White Ribbon
Classic wedding bouquets are usually full of all white blooms, roses, peonies, ranunculus and hydrangea being some of the most popular choices. This bouquet gathers some of those favourite blooms and then highlights them by piecing loops of black and white striped ribbon throughout the design. A backdrop of a sparkly sequined rose gold dress gives it a modern on-trend vibe.
Black and white stripe ribbon can also be used to simply finish a classic bouquet of white and green blooms. Effortless chic.
Black and White Dresses
Speaking of stripes, black and white stripes seem to be so on trend and in fashion right now. Have you ever thought of having your bridesmaids wear black and white striped dresses? Pair them with simple white flower bouquets.
I adore these cute, short bridesmaids dresses. I think that is finally a dress you could wear again after the wedding and being in timeless black in white, it will stay in fashion!
This bridal party takes bolder large stripes and adds in cute little details of different coloured bright shoes. The flower choice is kept simple and elegant to pull this look together.
Black Wedding Dress
The ultimate black and white wedding style would have to be the bride in a black wedding dress. For those who want to be different and break away from the traditional choice for a bride, I think a black wedding gown can be just as pretty especially when complimented by a classic white wedding bouquet.
So stop searching for the perfect colour for your wedding and look no further than black and white. Have you been to a black and white wedding recently?
