The offices at Tesselaars are a buzz as it is getting closer to one of our favourite times of year, our annual flower competition. But it’s even more exciting this year as we are looking for RockStar Florists!
Let’s look back at past competition highlights, including my top ten favourite winners and finalists to get the creative juices flowing!
Flowers to Wear
I love this bold standout red floral headpiece from 2015’s winner for the Flowers to Wear Category, Gentle Flowers from Minto, NSW. What an amazing way to use anemones! This design really catches your eye.

Dear Delilah Florist from Morwell, Victoria, delivered a romantic, feminine design featuring a rustic blossom collar paired with soft pastel pink feather and tulle. Dear Delilah Florist, a finalist in the Flowers to Wear category in 2015.

I still look at this image and smile. Back in 2013, Sydney florist Bodaflora Designs was a finalist in the Flowers to Wear category with this unique take on a gentleman’s bowtie. In the years that followed we saw other similar fantastic entries like a full floral neck tie.

I love that our competition brings to the forefront new and interesting floral design. Poppy Lane Flowers By Design from Maleny, QLD showed us this vibrant and textured floral necklace, earning them a Finalist spot for Flowers to Wear in 2014.

Flowers to Carry
Texture and bright colours dominate this bouquet design from 2015 Flowers to Carry Finalist, Lilygrace Flowers from Weston Creek, ACT. Bright colours add so much fun to one of the happiest of all celebrations, your wedding day.

I go weak at the knees when I see a divine colour palette of soft greys, white, pinks, apricots and minted greens. The mix of flowers and textures in this design by The Bouquets Of Ascha Jolie from Prahran, VIC included some of my all time favourites like tuber roses. They were a 2013, Flowers to Carry Finalist.

I am yet to come across a bride who doesn’t love a Peony. Sydney finalist, Kindred Floral, does this amazing bloom justice as a focal feature in this divine bouquet, paired with on-trend foliage and blooms to create a bold floral statement.

In 2015 we received many entries which featured fashionable native flowers. My favourite entry, which came in 2nd place, was from Touchwood Flowers from Port Macquarie, NSW. I just fall totally in love with a soft colour palette and the contrast between the sculptural native and pretty classic rose is stunning.

Flowers to Decorate
Flowers to Decorate is a fantastic category as there are really no limits, anything and everything can be decorated with flowers! The textures mixed with metallics in this design is still on-trend and gave Naturelle from Noosa, QLD a finalist place in 2015.

Green & Bloom from Ipswich, QLD is an amazing florist that I admire from afar. Their work is consistently breaktaking and they have featured many times over the years as finalists. In 2014, they earnt the title of Winner for the Flowers to Decorate category with this beautifully decorated space including floral hanging installations and matching table scapes.
