Summer is here and it’s so popular with brides taking advantage of when the family is in town. Whenever I think of summer weddings I always think of the beach and outdoor settings, a clifftop with an amazing seaview or a picture perfect summer garden party.

Bright colours also spring to mind, beautiful blues, warm yellows, hot pinks and vibrant oranges.  Let’s take a closer look at these 4 bright and hot flower colours perfect for summer weddings.

Bright Blues

Now it is true, that there aren’t too many flowers in blue tones, let alone, bright blue tones.  But today’s hero is the ultimate summer flower, heavenly hydrangea.  Blue hydrangea comes in a variety of shades from light blues to deep dusty blues and as you can see it also can be available in the most vivid blue colour.  Perfect for summer and perfect for your something blue too!

If you do want a blue summer wedding, this colour can also be incorporated using blue accents, napkins, table runners, stationery and like this example by Kehoe Designs, blue bottles can be great vessels for more readily available white blooms.

Warm Yellows

From ocean blues to warm yellow sunshine.  Yellow is such a happy fun colour and a lovely choice for a beach or garden wedding.  It’s a colour that plays really well with whites and greens.  I love this example of a yellow summer posy incorporating large yellow cymbidium orchids, yellow billy balls and scabiosa flowers and pods.

Sunflowers are a fabulous seasonal summer flower and therefore hold up well in the summer heat.  They great a vibrant playful relaxed vibe to a wedding.  They can be paired with daisies and seasonal yellow accent flowers.  In this example stock has also been used, but stock is more of a winter bloom in Australia, so try snapdragons as a great alternative and they are available nearly all year round.

Late in the summer season, calla lilies start to become available as we head towards Autumn and they are a fantastic bloom for summer weddings.  I love when they are used on their own, as a single variety bouquet of them can look very striking indeed.  Yellow, grey and white, like this bridal party is also a very chic colour palette.

Hot Pinks

Now you can’t talk summer weddings without mentioning hot pink.  Hot pink is sensational for summer weddings.  There are so many gorgeous blooms to choose from, hot pink roses, hot pink hydrangeas, hot pink orchids, the list goes on and on.  This bouquet by Teresa Sena Designs of hot pink phalaenopsis orchids is something really special.  I love the way it uses the natural curve of this amazing flower and cascades beautifully with other orchid varieties and foliage.

There is a vibrant hot pink flower called a gloriosa lily.  It has the most unusual appearance as it looks like an inverted lily with the petals bent backwards into a overall round shape and the stamens sticking out.  It is a beautiful flower to use with other tropical blooms for a summer beach wedding or like in this example by Hana Floral Design it can be grouped with other garden pretties for a softer style.

Hot days call for flowers that can stand the summer heat.  A bloom that is a champion at this task is carnations.  They are very hardy blooms and available in a variety of colours, hot pink is one of my favourite.

Vibrant Oranges

Orange is a standout vibrant colour that is sure to turn heads at a wedding.  I have a particularly soft spot for orange orchids like the ones below by Statue of Design.  They have paired them in this bouquet design with native blooms, which again for the summer heat, is a stroke of genius.

At times, gerberas have not been viewed as the most stylist of blooms, but they do come in an amazing array of colours and the hues in orange are very pretty.  I love the orange colour palette used here by ADORNMENTS flowers + finery where bright oranges are combined with apricots and pale pastel tones.  Silvers and grey succulents also contrast this colour palette very well.

We can’t finish talking about summer wedding flowers and colours without mentioning celoisa.  It is another amazing bloom that comes in a variety of colour hues like oranges, yellows, greens, reds, pinks and purples in both single colours and varigated tones.  It performs extremely well in hot weather conditions and is available in the cockscomb variety (pictured) which many people think looks like coral or brains and the smaller feather variety.  Celosia adds great interest to any floral design.
