No doubt you’ve seen countless magazine articles and blog posts about the top 10 ways you can save money on your wedding day….and invariably wedding flowers will be at the top of that list.
And yet when it comes to inexpensive, simple ways to make your wedding unique, wedding flowers really take the cake!
I, in no way, am going to push the agenda that you have to spend ‘X’ amount of dollars or percentage of your wedding budget on flowers, but I do believe that well-arranged, well-planned floral styling is one of the most important parts of your wedding decor budget, whatever that budget may be.
I was once told by a bride, ‘I don’t really even want wedding flowers, they just die anyway’.
Ugh! Like a knife through my heart!

Yes, flowers do die, but before they do, they make your wedding look beautiful, inviting and celebratory. I’ve seen even a small amount of flowers transform a less than appealing venue into something worthy of a party.
7 Ways To Make Your Big Day Unique with Wedding Flowers
So why am I writing this…? Wedding seasons is soon upon us. There are so many ways that you can use flowers to make your wedding be the celebration you’ve always dreamed it to be…here are some of my top tips for simple ways to incorporate flowers into your big day…
TIP #1 – Beware of Pinterest!
OK we all love Pinterest but sometimes the ‘DIY’ tag on Pinterest is very deceiving. I promise I will steer you in the right direction. If you’re a DIY Bride – your best bet is to go rustic and simple…
Tip #2 – Breathe, Baby, Breathe…
If you are a DIY-er with a little bit more floral flair a Gyp (or Baby’s Breath) Bouquet might be up your alley. Also a personal fave of our lovely Wedding Coordinator Rebekka.
Tip #3 – A lot can be done with jars and string!
Even hanging jars of flowers suspended on twine are easy enough to do, and oh-so effective…
Tip #4 – Hire a pro.
If you don’t have a styling bone in your body, but still want to have a fun, inviting and stylish wedding, a florist or wedding stylist will be able to help – and they’re not that expensive, not when you consider what a difference wedding flowers make to your day!
Tip #5 – Keeping up with wedding floral Joneses
There is so much eye candy and information on the interwebs about professionally styled weddings, that it can get to be information overload. A good starting point might be researching the next styles that are trending this season – I even wrote a blog about it a few weeks ago.
Tip #6 – Own That Venue
Professionally styled florals can transform even the most ordinary of venues – making it yours all yours!
One of my favourite Melbourne venues to decorate is Carousel in Albert Park. It’s a beautiful blank canvas, with a gorgeous view and great staff. Here’s a photo of what it looks like as a blank canvas:
Now, here’s the same venue with just teensy little bit of tasteful floral decor:
Tip #7 – Let it all hang out!
And here’s the same venue, but now with the hanging decorative volume turned right up to 11:
It doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated but wedding flowers do make such a wonderful difference. So, don’t discount them as an ‘optional extra’. There’s always room for flowers.
